Soulja Boy to Perform at Joe's Brewery - UIUC

Quad Daily News - 11/15/2022

CHAMPAIGN, IL — Struggling rapper Soulja Boy has announced that he will be performing at Joe's Brewery in Champaign, IL on December 7, 2022. Soulja Boy, born DeAndre Cortez Way, achieved fame after his debut single "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" became a viral hit in 2007. Now, after several bankruptcy filings, a failed pornographic career, and a brief stint as a preschool teacher, Way hopes to make a comeback performing at UIUC's bar scene. "Imma be playing the whole circuit", said the former celebrity at an L.A. press conference, "I'm talking Joe's, Kam's, PAR Dining hall, Loomis Lab... no place is safe from Soulja". Quad Daily News reached out to Joe's Brewery manager David Gutierrez, who explained to us the circumstances that led to Way's upcoming performance. "Yeah", said Guttierez, "he just walked in one day and offered to perform in exchange for $50 and free drinks. We eventually settled on a warm can of Miller Light and a sandwich." Though Way's announcement has generally been received positively, University Chancellor Robert J. Jones was critical of the upcoming performance. "We cannot allow D-list celebrities to come and further tarnish the reputation of the University", said Jones, "we're still recovering from that Chief Illiniwek shit."
